Adam Wearing, 31

Dyno-Rod Plumbing South East London, Greenwich & Kent

"I like the new challenges as well as meeting new people. I really like the fact that each job is different."

Tell us about your typical day

On a regular day I carry out both plumbing and gas work. For the plumbing side I can be fixing toilet taps, cylinders or different leaks. In my gas role, I’m primarily repairing boilers.

What do you enjoy the most about your work?

I like the new challenges as well as meeting new people. I really like the fact that each job is different - when I fix a problem and see the customer’s reaction, it’s priceless. I thoroughly enjoy the customer satisfaction part of the job.

Tell us about a customer experience

Once I received a call from a panicked elderly customer as her boiler had broken and she was not feeling well. So I wasted no time heading over to her house and reassured her that everything was going to be ok. I managed to fix the problem and the customer was delighted.

How do you feel about being the face of Dyno-Rod?

I feel honoured to have been asked – I love working at Dyno-Rod Plumbing Kent and feel proud of myself that I have got so far in the short amount of time I have been there.

Daniel "Danny" Claxton, 30

Dyno-Rod

"The one memory that really sticks with me is when I saved a woman’s flat from flooding."

Tell us about your normal day

In the morning, I find out the type of jobs I have for the day ahead and plan the routes, travelling up to a 100 mile radius sometimes. Normally I see around 8-10 customers in a day, visiting the customers’ properties and fixing their problems – which vary from blocked baths to basins or toilets. Occasionally, I visit industrial businesses to fix their drains, which can be more challenging.

Have you been 'heroic' at work?

I always like to go the extra mile for customers; I cover my boots before entering customers’ homes in order to keep their carpets clean, I take the bins out for elderly customers, and I try to help out with additional leaks if I am there fixing another job.

Tell us a few memories

Being a drainage engineer is anything but dull – all jobs vary and I’ve retrieved unusual items from the drains, like toys. The one memory that really sticks with me is saving a woman’s flat from flooding. Every time someone in her block of flats flushed their toilet, her toilet would overflow! Even with an emergency call out, no other companies would fix her problem, so she was absolutely thrilled when I turned up and I spent the next 6 hours unblocking and cleaning her flat. She was very appreciative and even wrote a letter of thanks to the head office.

"What I do is very unique and I get a great feeling of job satisfaction once I solve the puzzle!"

Tell us more about your job

On a day to day basis my job involves attending customers’ properties to help clear any blockages in their drainage systems, as well as carrying out CCTV camera surveys, to detect the type of blockage and fix the problem.

What is the best part of your job?

I really enjoy meeting different customers every day and fixing their drainage issues. What I do is very unique and I get a great feeling of job satisfaction once I solve the puzzle!

Tell us about a memorable customer experience

Once I was called to a customer’s home and there was sewerage all over his back garden. The customer had tried to unblock the pipe himself by sticking a hose pipe through it. Instead, he managed to jam it 10 feet down a gully and into the drain pipe. This could have been disastrous but I managed to remove the full length of the pipe and completely clear the blocked drain. The customer was absolutely thrilled and even wrote a letter of thanks to our company, which was really appreciated.

How do you feel about being the face of Dyno-Rod?

It’s an amazing feeling to know that hard work really does pay off, and that all the long hours and my dedication to Dyno-Rod have been recognised.

Gerald Gordon, 28

Dyno-Rod Plumbing Scotland

"I always put the customer first and at the end of each job, I check to see if there is anything more I can do to help them."

What does your job entail?

On a normal day I visit between 8-10 customers and carry out any job, whether it’s leaking taps, broken radiators or blocked toilets. I make sure the job is done to the best of my ability and I leave the customer with a safe and effective plumbing repair.

Have ever carried out 'heroic' work?

I always put the customer first and at the end of each job, I check to see if there is anything more I can do to help them. I’ve put the bins out for an elderly customer who was scared of the ice in her garden; I’ve bought lunch for a hungry housebound customer; I’ve fitted living room blinds for an elderly customer and I’ve even tuned in a new TV and shown the customer how to work the remote control.

How do you feel about being the face of Dyno-Rod?

I’m loving it! I posted the newspaper and radio ads on my Facebook page and had over 100 likes in one day. A customer even recognised me from the advert for the first time recently.
